Astranis builds a new class of satellite - small, powerful satellites for high orbits with the latest in digital processing technology. Due to the nature of the business, security is of utmost importance to the company. They have decided to work with CWX to move their critical workloads onto a highly secure GCP environment.
The Challenge
The main challenge around this project was the necessity to migrate highly critical workloads from AWS to GCP with ITAR compliance (Assured Workloads).
The ITAR compliance requirement introduced additional complexity that the Astranis and CWX teams tackled by introducing best practices and by efficiently working together.
The Solution
The team used Google’s native Migrate to Virtual Machines and Database Migration Service solutions to safely migrate assets in waves with minimal downtime, running User Acceptance Testing as a joint effort.
Several migration and optimization waves have been successfully executed in the process.
The Implementation Process
As a result of this work, several dozen Virtual Machines, database instances and storage areas were migrated into a highly secure, assured workloads-enabled environment to ensure the safety and security of Astranis’ most critical systems.
